Unicorn Calulo Bunker Services (UNICAL) is a joint venture between Unicorn Shipping and Calulo Services, a subsidiary of Calulo Petrochemical.
This partnership brings together one of South Africa’s oldest shipping companies, Unicorn which turned 75 in 2009, with new emerging operator Calulo Services, an empowered shipping and logistics services group that has enjoyed substantial growth since its formation 5 years ago.
UNICAL owns and operates three new high specification bunkering barges. Two barges provide an in-port bunker delivery service to all the oil majors (through Joint Bunker Services) in Durban, and the third barge is time chartered to Chevron in Cape Town. Featuring double-skin hull construction and double propulsion units to offer good maneuverability and back-up redundancy, the new vessels are able to carry approximately 4,500 m³ of marine fuel oil, marine gas oil and marine diesel oil bunkers to ships in port. They are designed to meet or exceed the oil majors’ safety requirements for ships of this type and purpose.
